Privacy and Accessibility Statement
2. Collection and Use of Personal Information
3. Passive Data Collection
We may receive passively-collected information through a variety of methods including but not limited to:
Cookies and Web Beacons. We may use a variety of methods, including “cookies” and “web beacons,” to collect information. A cookie is a small data file that is transferred to an Internet user’s browser by a web server. Cookies are designed to store basic information, such as a user’s preferences. A web beacon (sometimes referred to as a “clear GIF”) is a small string of code placed in a web page, email message (such as the Annenberg Space for Photography newsletter) or other media format in order to gather statistical usage information.
The information that we collect with cookies, web beacons and other passive methods may include your IP address, information about how you interact content, browser type, system type, device type, the content and pages that you access, the date and time you view pages, and the page from which you navigated.
Click-through URLs. In some of our email messages, we may use a “click-through URL” linked to content on a website. When you click one of these URLs, you pass through a separate web server before arriving at the destination page. We track this click-through data to help us determine interest in particular topics and measure the effectiveness of our customer communications. If you prefer not to be tracked in this way, you should not click text or graphic links in the email messages.
4. How We Use Information and When We May Share and Disclose Information Generally
We use personal information and passively-collected information for internal purposes only, such as to provide you with the Site, to improve the Site, to notify you of new events and offerings, and to otherwise communicate with you about the Site and Annenberg. We may disclose to third parties, certain passively-collected information regarding the Site. However, in such cases, your information is aggregated with the usage data of others and does not identify you individually.
5. Online Tracking
We may allow third-party companies to serve ads and collect certain anonymous information when you visit the Site. These companies may use non-personally identifiable information (e.g., click stream information, web browser type, time and date, subject of advertisements clicked or scrolled over) during your visits to the Site and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services likely to be of interest to you. These companies typically use a cookie or third-party web beacon to collect this information. Our systems do not recognize browser “Do Not Track” signals, but several of our Service Providers (defined below) who utilize tracking cookies or web beacons on the Site enable you to opt out of targeted advertising practices. To learn more about targeted advertising practices or to opt out of this type of advertising, please visit www.networkadvertising.org or www.aboutads.info/choices/.
6. Children under 13
The Annenberg Foundation does not knowingly collect information from children. Do not provide any personal information unless you are at least 13 years of age, and please caution your children not to provide any. If a child under 13 has provided personal information, a parent or guardian may contact us to request the removal of this information (see Section 16 below for contact information). We will use reasonable efforts to delete it from our database.
7. Service Providers
From time to time, we may establish a business relationship with other businesses whom we believe trustworthy and who have confirmed that their privacy practices are consistent with ours (“Service Providers”). For example, we may contract with Service Providers to provide certain services, such as hosting and maintenance, data storage and management, and marketing and promotions. We only provide our Service Providers with the information necessary for them to perform these services on our behalf. Each Service Provider must agree to use reasonable security procedures and practices, appropriate to the nature of the information involved, in order to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Service Providers are prohibited from using personal information other than as specified by Annenberg.
We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect the confidentiality and security of information transmitted to us. However, we do not guarantee the security of personal information or other information in any form, and your submission of information to the Site is at your own risk.
If you send us an email message or use one of our online forms, you should be aware that your information is not necessarily secure against electronic interception by unknown and unforeseeable third parties.
9. Other Transfers
We may share personal information and passively-collected information with organizations controlling, controlled by, or under common control with Annenberg.
10. Compliance with Laws and Law Enforcement
In certain limited and exceptional circumstances, we may be required by law to disclose information you submit to us. We may disclose personal information and any other information about you to government or law enforcement officials or private parties if, in our discretion, we believe it is necessary or appropriate in order to respond to legal requests (including court orders and subpoenas), to protect the safety, property, or rights of Annenberg or of any third party, to prevent or stop any illegal, unethical, or legally actionable activity, or to comply with the law.
