POYi IRIS Nights Free Lecture Series Continues
POYi IRIS Nights Guest Lecturer Dan Winters
With World Renowned Photographer Dan Winters

Thursday, August 13th, 6:30-8:00pm

Please join us on August 13th, from 6:30-8:00pm to hear Dan Winters describe the early influences and interest in film and photography that led to his career as an editorial photographer. He will also discuss his first book, Dan Winters: Periodical Photographs, chronicling the process and journey in putting it together, which was just released by Aperture.

Known for the broad range of subject matter he is able to interpret, Winters is widely recognized for his unusual celebrity portraiture, scientific photography and his photojournalistic stories. Dan has won more than 100 national and international awards from American Photography, Communication Arts, The Society of Publication Designers, PDN, The Art Directors Club of New York, and a 1st place World Press Photo Award in the portrait category. He was also awarded the prestigious Alfred Eisenstadt Award for Magazine Photography. In 2003, he was honored by Kodak as a photo “Icon” in their biographical “Legends” series.

Dan has shot regular assignments for magazines such as Esquire, GQ, Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, Texas Monthly, Wired, Discover, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Newsweek, Time, and many others. His clients for print, advertising and commercials include Nike, Microsoft, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Sony, Bose, Saturn, Sega, Fila, Cobra, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Dreamworks, Columbia TriStar and Twentieth Century Fox. Regular music clients include RCA, A&M, Sony, Warner Brothers and Epitaph.

He has mounted three exhibitions of his personal work in galleries in New York and Los Angeles and has photos in the permanent collection at the The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, Texas.
