IRIS Nights Lecture Series Presents: "Urban Noir LA/NY" with Helen K. Garber
Intrigue, romance, betrayal, surprise... Who doesn't love a little mystery and atmosphere? If that's up your alley, be sure to visit the Annenberg Space for Photography for the free Thursday evening lecture series, IRIS Nights. The next lecture offers a look at the smoky vision of Helen K. Garber.
Helen K. Garber will present her project: Urban Noir LA/NY - a series inspired by the visual elements of film noir, the language of pulp fiction and the rhythm of bebop jazz.
As an extra special treat, accomplished television and film composer John Beasley will accompany the lecture with a live performance his original score of Urban Noir.
Helen K. Garber is known for capturing nighttime urban landscapes in cities such as Los Angeles, New York and Paris. Her work is exhibited internationally in permanent collection of museums such as the George Eastman House, International Museum of Film and Photography, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Portland Art Museum.
Previous IRIS Nights lectures included (see pictures at left) Douglas Kirkland, Greg Gorman, Catherine Opie, Juergen Nogai and Wim de Wit, Lauren Greenfield, and most recently, Patrick Ecclesine.
While some space will be saved for walk in guests, we strongly recommend that anyone interested in attending register for a seat in advance. Due to the great popularity of these evenings, we have been brimming to capacity.
On June 18th Kirk McKoy and Genaro Molina of the L.A. Times will present their IRIS Nights lecture, Perspectives.
To register and for information about future exhibits please visit our website: www.annenbergspaceforphotography.org

PLEASE NOTE: The Annenberg Space for Photography will then be closed from June 29 through July 10, 2009, to allow for the installation of the next exhibit, Pictures of the Year International (POYi).
