An Australian native, photographer Andrew Southam has lived all over the world - Sydney, London, Milan, New York and, most recently, Los Angeles. He began his career photographing the Sydney Theatre Company and the Australian Ballet. His early work has given him a particular affinity for performers and artists of all kinds. Southam, has gained an international reputation for his images of beautiful women and has photographed Liv Tyler, Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Kevin Spacey as well as singer Jewel.
Southam studied screenwriting and cinematography at UCLA and film at Art Center College of Design. His work has been honored by the Society of Publication Designers and he has been the recipient of a Dove award. His portraits have been exhibited in the Australian National Portrait Gallery.
In a presentation of images from throughout his 25-year long career, Southam will discuss his photographic methods and the complicated nature of portraying beauty for the camera.
Southam currently lives in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles with his wife Tracy and his favorite subject: his young son, William.
