Last night's opening gala at the Photograhy Space was rockin'! It was a great celebration of photography and music amidts a crowd of hundreds of rock & rollers and photographers.
The hundreds of people in attendance were treated to a special surprise performance by the one and only Heart! The group sounded amazing and played an energetic five song set list of some of their classics including "Barracuda" & "Crazy on You." They opened their performance with "Even it Up." Watch a short clip of that above.

In the clip above, Who Shot Rock & Roll featured photographer Bob Gruen reveals why he enjoys being a rock & roll photographer. "Rock & roll is fun", he says, "and I like to have fun. That's why I like rock & roll." Pretty simple formula if you ask us. But what about the musicians he photographed? Legendary rocker Alice Cooper approved of Gruen and allowed him intimate access to his life on and off stage. According to him, Gruen was "an exception to a lot of the rock photographers."

We've just extended the exhibit run for Who Shot Rock & Roll and, at the same time, are also prepping for the opening of our next show, no strangers: Ancient Wisdom in a Modern World. The exhibit is about the wonder of culture and the plight of indigenous people throughout the world and opens on November 17, 2012. Watch the video teaser above to get a sense of what to expect from this important show.

For those of you who have visited Who Shot Rock & Roll, you may have noticed that the exhibit features several music videos playing throughout the space. One of them is energetic video for the The Vines’ song "Outtathaway." The piece was directed by David LaChapelle, who has several images (including this one of Eminem) in the show. While it's not the same as watching the clip amidst the rest of the images in the Photography Space gallery, you can check out the colorful, gorgeous and kinetic music video above. Wonder who had to clean up the mess created at the end of the clip?

Here's an exclusive video interview with No Strangers featured photographer Chris Rainier. In the clip, the lensman talks about his passion saying: "My philosophy is to use photography as an art form and also as a social tool to celebrate culture."

Hamid Sardar-Afkhami talks about his photography in the above video clip which is part of the 'No Strangers' exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography. Sardar-Afkhami, who is one of the show's featured photographers, says: "My journey as a photographer and as an ethnographer has been a personal pilgrimage. I am in search of the very soul of a people, a place, a culture." Watch the clip to learn more about him and his work in Mongolia.

Our next exhibit, WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath, debuts next month. The show, organized by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, will include over 150 images that present both the military and civilian point of view of war.
